My OLPH experience
While I was at OLPH, and observing Alexia. I watched her as she played with the paint at the paint and colouring station. While she was playing, I asked her what she was doing, and she told me how she was going to mix the colours to make different colours. Then she started explaining how, when she mixed certain colours, they made a whole new colour. After that, I asked her if she wanted me to write down her name so she could colour it, but she told me that she knew how to write her name, as she was writing down her name, and she said each letter out loud, which really showed me how intelligent she was. The level of creativity I think she was in is the Pre-Schematic stage. I think she is in this stage because she can write down her name and know what each letter exactly is, but there were other instances where she wasn’t very artistic and interested in more artistic things.
Something I did during Small Group Free Play Time was when we were outside with the kids, and we brought a speaker to play music and have fun with them outside. When we started, I noticed that not all of the kids were fully engaged with the music because it was chilly. So I started telling them that if they danced around and clapped, they would start to get warmer. After I told them that, all the kids started dancing and becoming more and more engaged with the activity. I realized that children also have more fun playing when there are other people around them having fun and doing the same thing they are doing too.
